Tonight's midsummernight. The weather wasn't looking too good,rather cold too, so we decided to have a barbecue at home and then go off to see our friends and lit the fire. DS2 and hubby are the masters of barbecueing...

DS1 warming up by the fire. He went for a swim, as did DS2 and DD1....The fire was good afterwards!
Then the sun came! This is our land you see in the background- (the picture can be enlargened by clicking on it-at least I hope so!)
I have been knitting too- although not as much as when I am alone-I wonder why...?-LOL !

Ooh, that looks fun! I'm curious, how many hours of darkness do you have in the summer?
Hehe- even if we don't have the midnightsun here, there can't be more than 1,5-2 hours of dark-less if it's a bright night, more if it is foggy or rainy.And the darkness is from around 12:30am till 2-2:30am. I can still see the colour of the barns and seahouses nearby, at 12:15am. And the flowers in the flowerpot outside. But from now on it gets only darker- the sun has turned, so we're heading towards winter and darkness-LOL!

Bonfires on the water are so fun. Sounds like a nice time.
This reminds me of summer 98. The US method of running a bonfire is to set up perimeters and all sorts of regulations about what you can and can not burn. Fire truck etc.
The Swedish Battalion method was to make a huge pile, make an announcement that "fire is hot and if you are stupid enough to stand too close you are going to get burned," then lit a fire that burned for hours.

Seeing your post made me think of nights of fires in my past back in Scotland. As someone else pointed out it is not so easy to have a big bonfire in the states...certainly not where I am in california where the big fires happen all by themselves!

Your midsummer sounds like it was great fun! And that your summer start has been great so far! I've lived in Norway 6 yrs, but have yet to get to a St. Han bonfire! Our weekend was rainy here in the south. Sorry so late getting to visiting you here, it's been crazy-busy of late. Happy Summer Days to you & yours!
You know . . . with so many "Nordics" around here in MN, I wonder why the bonfire isn't a tradition. (well, we do have a fire ban under effect - too dry and yes, we'd be in big trouble if we light a whopper of a fire like that - ).
It looks like so much fun! Such a beautiful scene with the sun on the valley. We'll have to do this next year on the beach!
Wow! Lucky kids! Those look like great bikes! Love the bonfire on the beach. Wish we had as much light during the summer.. but is it equally dark then in the winter? That would do me in!
