award...

I got this award from Caffeine Girl ! Thank you so much! Sorry I haven't responded earlier...I'm always late with such things...

The rules are as follows:

I tell you 10 things you may not know about me, and then I nominate 10 other people for the award.

1: I don't like gardening. I've always wanted to like it, but it seems it can't be forced...I've always envied my sister who likes to garden and have a nice one!

2: My grandmother taught me to crochet long before I started school. And my mom let me use the sewingmachine quite early. So I've been doing some kind of crafts for more than 40 years now...

3: I prefer autumn. Spring is too fresh, summer is too hot and winter is too long. Autumn is just perfect;-)

4: I'm not very fond of travelling, although I'd love to go back to Iceland! It's a great country with great people! The wool's not bad either...;-D

5: I love to drive.

6: I need a cup of tea in the morning! But I never drink coffee.

7: My favourite book has to be Celia Garth by Gwen Bristow. I've read it every summer when I went home, but my mom gave it to me, so I've started it over again today, since summerholidays started today!

8: Still haven't found out properly how Ravelry works...

9: I hate math. That's probably why I haven't tried designing my own patterns! Too much fuss to get the numbers right-LOL!

10: I'll be watching the Royal Wedding in Stockholm this weekend...If the boys want to watch football, they'll have to use the sea house;-)

And there came Mr.Black to inspect. He jumped up on my shoulders and is wrapping himself around my neck as a scarf...

Passing this award on is hard- there are too many great blogs/bloggers out there! I think I'll pass...

Have a great day!

..."my heart for Haiti"...

Haiti has been on the news over here too. We watch the photos and the films, while looking out on our white ,cold, proper winter. The kids have talked about it a lot, and on Monday DD2, the 12-yearold, came back from school and told me that they had a project in class to raise money to Haiti. Each were going to sew a heart -or two or more- in felt, and they would sell the hearts, together with coffee and waffles in the store on Saturday. She was very exited about it, and so were couple of her friends, so they have had two afternoons here, making hearts for Haiti.

And this has been teamwork! AE was cutting out hearts from old jeans, A cut out the fleece batting,

...and Å used the sewingmachine to stitch it all together!

Concentration...

...and some fun in between....computergames and music (How DO they manage to listen to that music!!!???LOL!)

...and here's a little bit of what they came up with:

dishtowels, with applique hearts, a hat,

felt hearts, now adorned with buttons and ribbons, and potholders in old jeans, cut out in a heartshape, and with an applique heart.

They also made a couple of pillowcases , like the one on top. They have been really organized and dedicated, and eager to do something. So now we hope for a lot of people to come and buy the hearts!
They will be at COOP Selje, Saturday 30.january from 11am.

I'll bring you a report on how it went!
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Then over to something completely different: Julegavealongen!
And I just realized...I haven't taken a picture of the mittens yet! But I'm done with
Jólagledi, the green and charcoal mittens from last post!
Over til noe helt annet...Julegavealongen!
I also got an award, from Ati, a very creative neighbour, she lives a little closer to the ocean than I do, (I have the fjord first). Thank you Ati, I appreciate it:-)

I am supposed to tell 7 things about myself, and pass it on to a few other people...
  1. I've always played with yarns and fabrics. My grandmother lived very close by when I grew up, and she teached me how to crochet before I started school. My mother always sewed our clothes, and she let me make dolls clothes, and later helped me sew clothes for myself, my other grandmother came from the US for a 6week vacation every other year, and she would show me tatting(but I've never got the hang of that...) or broomstick crochet, then i started knitting when I was about 17- and never really stopped...
  2. I went to agricultural school for two years.
  3. I've been working as a farmhand for 5 years, before I met hubby and got a bunch of kids.
  4. I was living in the San Francisco Bay Area for a year, in 1983-84. Rather different from the previous places I'd lived...but I enjoyed it.
  5. I also lived in Reykjavik, Iceland from Jan-85 to June-86, and loved it. I was working as a nanny, and still keep in touch with "my" family.
  6. I'm not really fond of travelling though...
  7. I love reading! Mostly crime, but I'll read almost everything...

Then I should tag some...There are lots of creative people out there, but I think I'll pass on the tagging....but please grab it!

  7. Jeg er veldig glad i å lese! Alt mulig, men stort sett krim...

The view yesterday afternoon...

Gårsdagens utsikt...

Have a great weekend!
Ha en flott helg!

...keeping busy...

I'm a lousy blogger these days...most of what I makeis unbloggable, because of this thing they call Christmas...;-)but I have a couple of things to show off- AND I have a couple of awards to accept! Thanks!!

Yesterday the kids and I went Christmasshopping. We're almost done, but not quite...I was looking for "something special" for someone special, but didn't find any. On my way home, it suddenly struck me: I have a piece of crocheted lace! And I have a piece of a linen/viscose blend that was meant to become a blouse. The lace was already joined in a square, I've had plans for that for quite some time, just waited for the right fabric- and then it somehow got "lost" on the bottom of the drawer. So home we came, and I dragged out my sister's sewingmachine, I borrowed it this summer, but haven't used it a lot yet.

It didn't work.

The underspool jumped out of place again and again. Finally I gave in and found the old machine that was given to me some years ago. It's not a good machine, but it will do.

It didn't work either...

In the end, I called a friend and got to borrow her machine...and here's the result:
(and I might keep it myself...)

A square tablecloth, 115x115 cm. I like it. It's not perfect in any way, but it was fun making it. Apart from the sewingmachineincidents, that is...

A detail of the lace. Crochet is what I started with, when I was around five. My grandmother lived nearby, and she taught me. I make mostly smaller items, not having the patience for those big tablecloths and bedspreads that Gran used to make.

I'm sure I did it all the wrong way too! I cut out the middle part, and hemmed the middle and the inside of the square, and the zigzagged the lace to the fabric...I'm not very fond of handsewing...

These are cheap kitchentowels made a little more personal with appliqued hearts. Fun to make, and really easy.

Then over to the awards...sorry I'm so late in passing these on!

The first one came from Beyla .

"The blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and realationship! These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prices or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prices are cut, even more friendship are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers!Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eightmore and include this cleverly written text into the body of their awards."

I'd like to give this to:
