...but first a little glimpse of what it looked like last week...gray, foggy, magic...

...forrige uke...grått, disig,snø i lufta, og ganske magisk... ...and the monastery ... I went to check on the sheep, and they are doing well. A lot of the snow has disappeared here.

...ved klosteret også...jeg var ute for å sjekke sauer, og de så ut til å ha det bra. Det er mye mindre snø der ute. ...then some knitting! Selbustrikk, to be precise... these mittens are #6. So far only done with one, but I'll start the second one later today. Selbustrikk is fun!
...da var det strikking! Selbustrikk, for å være nøyaktig. Dette er #6 i heftet: Selbustrikk LVS-5 fra Rauma. Er bare ferdig med den første, men legger nok opp til #2 i løpet av dagen. Selbustrikk er moro!
(men da jeg skulle google "selbustrikk" kom det bare opp amerikanske sider! De norske lå laaaangt nede på oversikten!)
These are the Icelandic pattern:Jólagledi, knitted in Tove. 2.5mm needles. I lengtened it with one pattern, and I should have moved the thumb a little closer to the edge. Other than that I like the pattern and the outcome.

Her er det islandske mønsteret jeg strikket: juleglede. Brukte Tove og 2,5mm pinner. (Drops,trepinner, de blir skrekkelig bøyde, men er kjempegode å bruke!). Jeg forlenget mønsteret med en rapport, og ser at jeg skulle flyttet tommelen litt nærmere siden, men ellers er jeg godt fornøyd med dem.
I guess I've told you...we have WINTER this year! We've had snow covering the ground for two months, it has rained only a couple of days during this period, and it's been cold! So, I made a set for myself: different patterns, but the yarn is the same! It's wool, fingering weight, but that's all I know about it, it came without a ballband...actually my mum came with 20 balls of it, she'd picked it up at a factory outlet.

The gloves: Loksins, originally a sockpattern, but very suitable for gloves too. Knit with 2.5mm circular needles, both at the same time.

The hat:Hermiones cable-and lace hat, this is one version I've seen, there are more, like this one on ravelry. Knit with 4mm needles, yarn doubled.

And finally, the scarf:Aestlight, this is probably my fourth? fifth?. Still love it though! Knit with 4mm needles.

Tror jeg kan ha nevnt det tidligere...hehe..men i år har vi altså VINTER! Vi har hatt snø i to måneder ihvertfall, det har bare regnet etpar dager, og det har vært kaldt! Så stabilt vær kan jeg aldri huske på disse kanter av landet. Men uansett- jeg måtte til med lue...så da ble det å strikke et sett...garnet er det samme på alle delene, men det er ulike mønster. Garnet fikk jeg av mamma, hun hadde vært på fabrikkutsalg. Det må være 100% ull, for det tover...,og så er det ganske tynt, omtrent som babyull eller strømpegarn. Men det fantes ikke spesifikasjoner...magebeltet var hvitt...

Vantene: Loksins. Egentlig et sokkemønster, men fungerer fint til vanter også. 2,5mm rundpinne, og begge strikket på en gang.

Lua: en variasjon over Hermines lue fra en av HarryPotter filmene, jeg fant to varianter på nettet. Strikket med dobbelt garn, og på pinne nr. 4

Og så skjerfet da, Aestlight, det har jeg bare strikket 3-4 ganger før....og blir ikke lei. Strikket med pinne nr. 4 for å få det litt lett og luftig.
..and then the stockings-LOL! Here are February's Victorian Valentine Socks from Sockamania. I've wanted stockings for some time, but not with the lace/ribbon detail...so I made mine with ribbing in the back, and a slightly different edging, knitted on, not sewn on.

...og endelig strømper! Hehe! Dette er februarmønsteret i Sockamania-klubben, de er egentlig med silkebånd opp langs leggen bak..men det er ikke helt min stil! Så jeg strikket med ribbestrikk istedetfor. Begge på en gang, Ida Strømpegarn fra Trysilgarn(europris), 2,5mm, og nå har jeg ny rundpinne, Addi, med trepinne, 80 cm. Kjempegode!

We woke up to another gorgeous day...sunny, and just around freezingpoint.It will thaw a little during the day. The roads seems to be cleared of snow and ice too.

Christmas is over and packed away- and one of the new ornaments this year was this cute mitten from Britt-Arnhild! Just in time too, for the cold weather we've had, and still have!

But here is my version of Baktus. I almost went insane while knitting it..increasing every fourth row? And only on one side? Grrr!!! So it looks rather wonky- I'm sure I've missed and increase, or done too many- but I hope it will improve with a good soak.

Yarn: Gjestal babywool, a red variegated. I used 100 grams

Needles: 4mm

Men her er min versjon av Baktus. Jeg trodde jeg skulle blitt gal av den! Klarte aldri å følge med på hvor jeg skulle øke- det burde ikke være SÅ vanskelig å øke hver 4.omgang??? Så hele greia ser litt rar ut, men jeg håper det retter seg med en vask...

Sockamania's Snowy Winter's Eve, knit in Sterk from DuStoreAlpakka. 40%alpakka, 40%merinowool, 20%nylon. 5ogr=137m. So soft!!! And not big enough on me...the fairisle pattern on the leg is just too tight. But they go into the giftpile, so at least something will be done for next Christmas! I have plans to knit a set of mittens and a hat to go with it, think that will be cute.

Jeg er fortsatt med i Sockamania, og her er januarsokkene. Prøvde Sterk fra DuStoreAlpakka, et nydelig mykt garn! Men selvfølgelig ikke store nok til meg...møsteret på leggen gjør at de trekker segfor mye sammen til at jeg kan bruke dem. Jaja, de går i gavehaugen, så da har jeg første prosjektet klart til neste jul! Jeg har planer om å strikke votter og lue med samme mønster, tror det kunne bli fint.
These are a pair of socks for hubby- Saviano from the latest Knitty. Quick knit. The yarn is a bit heavier than I normally use, I think it was Perfect from Sandnes.

Gubben fikk seg også etpar nye sokker, Saviano fra det nyeste Knitty. Ganske raske. Jeg tror garnet er Perfect fra Sandnes. Pinne nr 3?
We've had a great winter so far. There has been several weeks now with cold weather, a little bit of snow, and NO RAIN!!! And that is NOT the normal weather here!!! It is actually so cold the water froze...somewhere between the barn and the house. It was frozen Saturday morning, so DS1 and I sat the whole day trying to warm up the pipes again for the barn- it took us several hours, but we thawed it in the barn. Then we started carrying buckets down to fill the bathtub (flushing the toilets..) and filling a big bucket on the kitchencorner for washing and food. We were invited to a Christmas party that evening, which was very nice. Hubby stayed home to try to figure out what to do with the water. On Sunday we drove to Ålesund, first we went to see my MIL-Farmor- and did three loads of laundry, and then dropped off DS1. The ship, Gann, has been in Surnadal as a hotelship, you can read more here, and the pupils came onboard on several places along the coast.

Monday was another day dealing with the water issue, and I ended up driving a 4 hour roundtrip to borrow Elvestadrør, they have a heater around the waterhose. On Tuesday we tried to get it in place...and then hubby had to leave...so he's back in Houston. A plumber came later that evening and helped me connect it properly, so now we have water again. The kids were thrilled to get the water back! But we would have been in more trouble if the power went...

Så langt har vi hatt en fantastisk vinter! Først en lang,tørr høst, og nå en lang kuldeperiode med litt snø. Ikke regn på lange tider! Det er ikke det vanlige her! Det er faktisk så kaldt at vannet frøs...et sted mellom fjøset og huset. Det var frosset lørdag morgen, så eldsten og jeg satt med hårføner og tinte rør i fjøset, det tok noen timer, men vi fikk det til. Så begynte vi å bære vann...fylte opp en stor stamp på kjøkkenbenken til drikkevann og vask, og fylte badekar så en kunne få spylt ned på wc. Vi var invitert bortpå juleselskap den kvelden, men gubben holdt seg hjemme for å ta en ringerunde og passe på vannet... Søndag kjørte vi til Ålesund, først inn til svigermor og fikk vasket tre maskiner, og så levert eldsten ombord på Gann igjen.Reiste hjemmefra kl.9 på morgenen, og kom tilbake halv11 på kvelden...Sjekk forresten ut linkene til Gann- flotte bilder på den ene der!

Mandag kavet vi enda mer med vannet, og det endte opp med at vi fikk låne Elvestadrør- vannrør med varmekabler- så jeg kjørte til Breim og henta... Vi fikk kobla opp det meste på tirsdag, men så måtte gubbenreise- nå er han tilbake i Houston. Fikk hjelp av en rørleger litt senere på kvelden, så nå har vi vann igjen i kranene. Ungene jublet! Men vi ville faktisk vært i større trøbbel hvis strømmen forsvant...

Back to the wool! The sheep at Selja also needs extra feeding.

Tilbake til ulla! Sauene på Selja trenger ekstra fóring nå. DS1 is hauling a bag of hay. The snow was not strong enough to carry us, so we went through and down to our knees- really heavy!

Eldsten drar en sekk med høy. Skaren bar akkurat IKKE, så vi trakka gjennom i puddersnøen under, og gikk i til knes- tungt!

The sheep are standing on the ridge. Not easy to see. They eat a lot of heather now.

Sauene står helt oppe på ryggen. De er ikke lette å se. Det er endel lyng og sånt innover der som de eter på.

And they like hay...

men de er glade i høy også...

They also need a slope/path, because the snow is rather deep, and they have difficulties walking through it.

De trenger et trakk for å komme seg fram,for snøen er ganske dyp, og det blir for tungt å trakke gjennom.

We didn't get any sun on the monastery while we were there, but it was really beautiful and peaceful.

Vi fikk ikke sol på klosteret da vi var der, men det er flott og fredelig likevel.

...and then some knitting...

There's been a lot of knitting going on lately...the weather is so lousy that doing something outdoors is no option! I also spent a couple of days on the bed, with an uncooperative back...and that is good knitting time!
I don't know if I've written about this sweater before? I got the yarn from my mum a year or two ago, I think it's Silja, but it might be Babyull . There were no labels, but it was a whole bag full, and it's soft and warm. I've knitted it on 3mm needles, based on Georgie by Sarah Dallas/Rowan, but I made a v-neck and used Cassie's Loksins socks pattern. The buttonbands are knitted at the same time. I carried the frontbands around the neck- it was a bit fiddly, and included some shortrow shaping and a couple of times with frogging, but now it lies flat and snug around my neck, and I like the way it looks. I did a 3needle bindoff at the middle of the neck

It might have been a bit longer...

(oh, and I sewed the jeans too- my favourite!)

Heisan! Det har vært litt strikking på gang i det siste- med det været vi har, frister det ikke å holde på ute, ihvertfall! Har hatt etpar dager på senga også, ryggen slo seg vrang, og da var det best å ligge- sikkert ikke lurest, men best;-D- så det ble strikking da også.

Jeg husker ikke om jeg har skrevet om denne jakka før? Jg fikk garnet for etpar år siden av min mor, hun hadde vært på Gjestal og plukket med seg garn, og dette lå vel i feilvare eller noe sånt. Aner ikke om det er Silja eller Babyull, for de manglet alle opplysninger! Men garnet er mykt og godt. Jeg strikka med p.nr 3, og syns det kom greit ut. Jakka er basert på Georgie (link lenger oppe), når det gjelder maskeantall og fellinger og sånt, men istedet for flettene og rund hals, laget jeg v-hals, og brukte Cassies Loksins! mønster. Som vanlig strikket jeg ermene først, rundt, 2-på-en-gang magic-loop, og så strikka jeg for-og bakstykker i ett. Knappelistene ble strikket samtidig. V-fellinga er gjort innenfor forkantene, det synes ganske godt på bildene. Jeg hadde lyst på den forkanten i nakken også, så det ble litt opprekking og fundering før det "falt på plass", bl.a. med litt avkorta rader akkurat over skulderen. Men nå passer den fint, og jeg ble veldig fornøyd. Ser nå at den kunne vært liiitt lenger, emn tror jeg kommer til å bruke den mye! (jeg sydde forresten buksene jeg har på meg også, de har blitt en favoritt!)



I've been a member of the Sockamania club ever since it started too, and knitted almost every pair of socks that Anni has designed for the club. Always nice and easy patterns. Now Anni is moving on, but Tama is taking over the designpart, and that is exiting. So my last Anni-patterns are these:

The black ones for hubby, knitted in Silja on 2.5mm needles, two-at-a-time, magic loop, the grey ones knitted for the giftbasket, in a Vikingyarn ,very soft, but also with some nylon reinforcement. They are called Hot Air Balloon. Both quick and easy to knit.

Jeg har vært medlem av Sockamaniaklubben helt siden den ble started for 3 år siden, og har strikket omtrent hvert eneste par Anni har designet. Alltid greie, lettfattelige mønster. Nå gir Anni seg, men Tama tar over, så det blir spennende. Så her er mine siste Anni-mønster:

Det svarte paret er til gubben, det er et ribbemønster, strikket i Silja, p.nr. 2.5, begge på en gang med magisk løkke. De grå går rett i gavekorga. Garnet her tror jeg er et Vikinggarn. Det er mykt og godt, men det er litt nylonforsterkning i det også. De heter Varmluftsballong! Begge greie og enkle å strikke.

Then there are the shawls... The Shetland Trader's Aestlight shawl. I was lucky enough to

testknit it, and always knew I would use the pattern again. So, here they are:-) This orange/yellow one is knitted in Schaefer's Anne, I thought I would run out of yarn, but still have 15 grams left! It's not blocked yet, but I've sewn in both ends-LOL! This is for me. I got the yarn from Kristy in a give-away she had quite some time ago, it's been sitting on my shelf ever since, I've tried to knit it up before, but it just wasn't right. But this is a match;-)



The red one is made of Gjestal Babyull, slightly variegated colour. This isn't blocked either, it was knitted in June, but I didn't sew in any ends until yesterday...

All garterstitch...

Så var det sjala...jeg var prøvestrikker for Gudrun i juni, da strikket jeg et sjal i rød ull. Jeg visste at jeg kom til å bruke mønsteret igjen, og nå har jeg endelig fått brukt det guloransje garnet (Shcaefers Anne) jeg fikk av Kristy for leeenge siden! Har prøvd det før, men nå passa garn og mønster sammen. Jeg trodde jeg skulle slippe opp for garn, men det var drøyt, og jeg har fremdeles 15 gram igjen!

Det røde sjalet strikka jeg i juni, men fikk aldri somla meg til å feste endene, det ble ikke gjort før igår... Garnet her er en melert Gjastal Babyull. Ingen av sjala er blokka, og det er ikke sikkert jeg får somla meg til det heller...

De er ikke så store, men passer bra som et skjerf rundt halsen. Og så er det bare rettstrikk (og litt kast...)

I've done some sewing too, but havn't any photos. Now I have "orders" for 3 jeansbags, made out of recycled jeans, so my head is buzzing with ideas! I should have been herding sheep too, it's slaughtertime, but it's so foggy and rainy and windy that I don't want to go yet. I've seen some of the sheep quite close to home- only a couple of hours away- so I hope they stay there, or preferably get home by themselves... Hubby went to Selja and brought home the ram we had there, now I have to go get the lambs. Oh, well, it's still early fall...

Jeg har sydd litt også, men har ingen bilder. Nå har jeg "bestilling" på 3 dongerivesker, av godt brukte jeans, så hodet er fullt av ideer! Jeg skulle sanka sauer også, det er slaktetid, men det er så mye tåke og regn og storm at jeg drøyer det litt. Jeg har sett endel av spælsauen på fjellet her, etpar timer unna, så jeg håper de holder seg der, eller aller helst kommer hjem av seg selv! Gubben var på Selja og hentet hjem den væren som gikk der, så får jeg ut og hente lamma. Heldigvis er det fremdeles tidlig høst...

How's your summer? Mine's been busy, as usual, it started out slow and cold and wet, but then we got lots of sun and warm weather, and managed to get the haying done in record time! Got a lot of hay too. The barn smells so fresh!

Hei! Korleis har sommaren vore? Vi har hatt det travelt, som vanleg, det begynte seint og kaldt og vått, men so kom sola og varmen, og vi fekk gjort unna høyinga på rekordkort tid! Fekk mykje høy også, pluss nokre rundballar. Løa luktar så godt!

Today's view...

As I've told you before, we've got a kitchengarden this year, but I'm not particularily fond of gardening...However, I love to be able to pick fresh vegetables every day! We have lots of lettuce, the carrots are coming along nicely, there are sweet peas, radishes, spinach, some strawberries and raspberries, and a lot more. My green curtain has been filled with cucumbers, and now the tomatoes are starting to get red, they are so sweet in salads, and we've eaten a lot of salads lately!

Eg har vel sagt det før, men vi har altså ein kjøkenhage i år, sjølv om eg ikkje er særleg glad i hagearbeid...Derimot er eg svært glad i å kunne gå ned og plukke ferske grønsaker kvar dag! Vi har hatt mykje salat, gulrøtene kjem flott, der er sukkererter, reddiker, spinat, litt jordbær og bringebær, og mykje meir. Det grøne gardinet mitt er fullt av agurkar, og no byrjar tomatane å verte raude, dei er so søte og gode i salater, og vi har ete mykje salat i det siste!

Ruth made a pair of great socks, pattern is found as a Ravelry-download
here, and I found out these would be great for the boys! So I made one pair in a light grey and one pair in a darker grey for DS1 and DS2, substituting the vine pattern for a broken rib pattern (simple: round one- knit all stitches, round 2- knit 3, purl 1. Repeat those two rounds.) DS2 got the spider on the back of his leg, DS1 got it on the side. Fun pattern, and very fast. They are knit with

Viking Frøyagarn, knit two-at-a-time, toe-up, magic-loop, on 2.5mm needles. I like the yarn,it's a blend of 80%wool, 20%nylon, gauge26st=10cm. Seems very soft, but I'm not sure about durability yet.

And not one proper photo of the whole sock!

Ruth har strikka eit par flotte sokkar- følg linkane over-og eg fann ut at dei ville vere flotte til gutane! Så eg strikka eit par i lysgrå til han på snart 16, og eit par i litt mørkare til han på 17. I staden for bladmønsteret som var på originalen, strikka eg eit enkelt ribbemønster: omg.1:strikk alle maskene rett, omg.2: strikk 3m rett, 1 maske vrang. Yngsten fekk edderkoppen bak på leggen, eldsten fekk han på sida. Det var eit morosamt mønster, og lett å strikke. Eg brukte Viking Frøyagarn, strikka begge på ei gang med magic-loop, og frå tåa og opp (følgde møsteret, det hadde ein uvanleg hæl, forresten). Brukte som vanleg pinne nr. 2.5mm. Garnet var mjukt og godt å strikke med, men eg veit ikkje korleis det held seg enda.

Og ikkje eit einaste skikkeleg bilete av heile sokkane!

I've been knitting more...Sockamania had a catch-up-month which suited me well...these are the "get fruity" socks that I didn't knit when we first got the pattern. They were intended for my sister, but...well, I've "conquered" the toe-up construction, two-at-a-time, magic-loop, and now finally short-row-heels...BUT...I haven't figured out how to get them the right lenght yet-LOL! Somehow I find it a lot easier to determine lenght when I knit top down!

Eg har strikka meir...Sockamania-klubben hadde ikkje noko nytt mønster denne månaden, vi fekk istaden høve til å gjere erdig eit par vi ikkje hadde fått ferdig før...og dette mønsteret hadde ekki ikkje strikka før. Dei var egentleg tenkt til søstra mi, men...vel, eg har endeleg mestra tå-opp, to-på-ein-gong, magic-loop(norsk namn???)(magisk løkke høyrest litt pussig ut;-)), og no endeleg "short-row"hælen( her og manglar eg eit fornuftig norsk ord!)... MEN...eg har ikkje funne ut korleis eg skal få rette lengda på dei-hehe! Det er mykje lettare å finne lengda når eg strikker frå toppen og ned!

And finally- Owls!!! I've always had a crush on owls, and I loved this pattern when I was saw it. I didn't care much for the construction though...it was way too tight for my liking. So instead I made a jacket out of it, using two different grey colours together on 6mm needles, I think it was.
I started with a provisional cast-on, just below the owls, did those according to pattern- adding a few stitches for the buttonband-but I had to knit a couple more rows for the nec, otherwise it would have been too wide. Then I picked up and knitted the body down, and added a few short rows to the back just before the hem to make it a little bit longer in the back. Found some buttons, but only had enough of the small ones to give 5 owls eyes... I really like this sweater, and I've used it a lot. The yarn is something I got from my mum, a sweater she had knitted but not finished, that would not fit me. It was grey and white, so I ripped it and used the grey together with something I had in my stash. I still have quite a lot of white.

Og så har eg endeleg strikka Ugler! Eg har alltid likt ugler, og samla på dei, og dette mønsteret likte eg med det same eg såg det, bortsett frå fasongen- den vart litt for trang... Så istaden strikka eg ei jakke i to gråfarger saman på p.nr 6, trur eg det var. Eg begynte med eit førebels opplegg, like under uglene, strikka dei etter mønsteret, men så strikka eg fleire omganger på bærestykket, og felt litt annleis for ikkje å få den for vid i halsen. Deretter plukka eg opp masken og strikka nedover til den var lang nok. Auka litt i sidene, og strikka den litt lengre bak. Eg fant nokre knappar, men hadde berre 10 av dei små, så det vart berre auge på 5 av uglene... Eg likar jakka kjempegodt, og har allereie brukt ho eindel. Garnet fekk eg frå mor mi, ho hadde strikka ei jakke i grått og kvitt som ikkej var montert, og ho passa heller ikkje til meg. Eg rekte ho opp igjen og brukte garnet saman med noko grått eg hadde på lager. Eg har framleis alt det kvite att.

DS1 had a friend visiting for a few days, and this weekend they went to Malakoff Rock Festival
and had a great time. They came home by bus both Friday and Saturday, because I didn't want them to stay at the camp there.
Here is a happy boy...

DS2 and DD1 and I went to see "Harry Potter"...a great movie( but I like the books better...)

Hubby is back in Houston, I've sent him a mail with adresses for a few yarnstores(Thanks for the suggestions, Mary!), but I don't know if he will go...He has DD2 with him,she turned 12 a few days ago, she'll spend 4 weeks with him. They already had to find a bookstore to find her some more books, because she had read those she brought with her from home! So far she likes it, but she thought it was hot!!!
She got a pair of steeltoed shoes and a helmet, so she can go with him to the worksites.

Eldsten hadde ein kamerat på besøk nokre dagar, og dei var på Malakoff i helga, det hadde vore heilt topp! Dei kom heim med buss både fredags-og laurdagskvelden, for eg hadde ikkje lyst til å la dei vere på campingen heile helga. Han stakk nasa fram i avisene...(håpar lenka over virka...)

Eg tok med dei andre to på Harry Potter...ein flott film (men eg liker bøkene betre...)

Gubben er tilbake i Houston. Eg har sendt han ein mail med diverse adresser til garnbutikkar (takk til Mary!), men eg veit ikkje om han får tida til å kike innom...Han har yngstedattera med seg- ho som vart 12 for nokre dagar sidan-ho skal vere ilag med han i 4 veker. Dei har allereie måtta finne ein bokhandel, for ho hadde lest ut dei bøkene ho hadde med seg! So langt likar ho seg, men det var heitt!!! Ho har fått eit par vernestøvlar og ein hjelm, så ho kan vere med han på verkstaden.

I have a working computer again!!! Hubby had a friend/former colleague visiting over the weekend, and he knows his way around computers, so all of a sudden it works, and I can upload pictures again! Let's hope it lasts...;-D

We've had a busy few weeks. Two long weekends, both with guests, one where we planted and weeded the garden, and set the potatoes, then one where the kids participated in Dragseidspelet, and the week between was devoted to rehearsals...the weather was very nice last weekend, lousy in between, and gorgeous this weekend when the play was performed! Check out that link, there are some great photos! They had two professional actors participating this year, Roger Hilleren and Mikkel Gaup, both well known in Norway. My youngest came back from rehearsal one night and whispered with stars in her eyes: Mikkel is teaching us how to "joike"!!! At the round-up party for all the participants, she and 6 other girls did a joik that he had taught them, and they had so much fun.


A few months ago, "my" Icelandic knittinggroup Garnaflækja started a KAL, "Prinsateppid". It's quite similar to the Shetland hap shawls, I guess. Anyway, I joined, and knitted....and then other projects sort of got in the way...But now I'm going to finish it, there is only the edging left. 140 repeats, I'm done with 20... Yarn: Tove from Sandnes, white light grey, charcoal and some dark red.
Needles: Knitpicks, 4mm

It was meant to be used as a babyblanket, but I think I'll use it as a shawl. We'll see when it's done. IF it gets done...

May Sockamania... the yarn is too busy to really show off the pattern, but I didn't have any solid blue or red in my stash, so I changed the colours...Another Hey,Teach! off the needles, for my niece K, but she had forgotten that she'd picked white;-)

Yarn:

Føn from Gjestal, I used 10 or 11 balls. The yarn is very soft, a blend of 30% cotton and 70% bamboo, but also very splitty!

I knit on 4mm needles, instead of the suggested 5mm.
The back. I started this with a provisional caston at the ribbing, knit the pattern up, and finished the sleeves, then picked up the live stitches, and did the body downwards. It is considerably longer than the original, more like a tunic.

I also added a little broken rib pattern, and made the neckline a bit higher.

doubleknot, used on both fronts, but I forgot to give them a mirror image...

Knotty Gloves, used on both back and front, and sleeves.

Elegant Celtic Cabled Rug, used for the peplum.

Then I added some beehivecables, and plain cables. Around the whole thing I made a border with a simple four stitch cable and some seed stitch.

I've used it a lot already, and really like it, despite it's flaws...like the neckline is a bit wide, and the zipper too short, and the sleeves are too long...still- it's pretty colour, it was a fun knit, and it's one of the few things that I've designed myself.

Hubby's left for Houston again, it's cold and miserable outside, the kitchengarden needs weeding, and the sheephouse should be cleaned out. But I'll get another cup of tea, read the papers and knit some more on that shawl...

I HAVE been knitting!

Not exactly lace weight... My first attempts of spinning. The spindle is not a favourite, I think I would like a wheel better, but it's okay for now. I just didn't realize it would get so messy! It is fun though! The wool is really soft, at least in my opinion! It's grey, but gets funnycoloured when i spin it, there's alot more white in it. Oh well, I have plenty of wool to play around with!

We bought the handcarders last summer in a thriftstore...

But I have been knitting too...My blue recycled sweater is done, even with a zipper, it used to be short and boxy with very wide sleeves, now it's long and slim, but still with sleeves that are a bit wide. And long...I knit the peplum first, picked up stitches for the body, and finished that, then knitted the border around the whole sweater, and attached it as i went along. I like it. The zipper is probably too short. I inserted it above the peplum. I'll try to find the links for the different patterns later.

But this one is better! Lots of cables- probably too many- but fun to knit! I ripped the boxy one that I had knitted some 20 years ago...

I've worn it several times too, and I like it, even though it could have been a bit wider and maybe a bit shorter...;-)


April's Sockamaniasocks, very nice lacy ones. I haven't started the May socks yet, right now I'm trying to finish a tunic for my niece K. It's in white, and I use last summer's big hit: HeyTeach. nice H got the green one I made and forgot to take a photo of, and K wanted the same thing. I'm knitting it a bit different though- starting with a provisional cast-on at the ribbing at the waist, knitting the lacy pattern and the sleeves, sewing it all together, and then picking up and knitting down from the waist. Easier to get it the right lenght, and both wanted tunics and not a short jacket.

ThePoppySocks are done!(I guess you never thought you'd see a photo of those;-) (Sorry, only a Ravelry-link) Yarn. the blue is Senja from Gjestal, the pink is something else...but similar. Knitted two-at-a-time using magic loop, 2,5mm. FUN!!!I haven't been able to get gauge, the yarn is a bit too thic k, and the needles might have been smaller, but they fit my large eet, and that's what matters:-)

The girls just look at me when I say I'll be wearing them: "seriously???"

Two at the same time was okay as long as I paid attention to where the yarn was...so- no tangles! I tried to knit another pair with two colours, and only two balls of yarn...that did not work out...

My youngest nice turned 7 last week. My sisters and I have 6 daughters in all, and I also have two sons, but it was the girls I was talking about... Mine have never been pink, they've occasionally used a pink t-shirt or a pair of trousers, but they've never minded using other colours. Neitehr have the other girls. The five oldest, that is. Then came O. She is 4 years younger than the second youngest. And she is PINK!!! It has always been okay to buy her clothes for gifts, as long as they were pink. Blue or green stripes or anything would make it a boy's garment. She looks good in pink though. But now, for her seventh birthday, I decided to knit her something, and asked what her favourite colour was. "Pink!" "But purple is also my favourite." So I grabbed the chance when I got it:-)
A purple tunic. Pattern found in HendesVerden. (A danish magazine. I bought it because it had a leaflet with knitted children's clothes attached. )

The yarn is DuStoreAlpakka's Babysilk, a beautiful, soft yarn that I have never tried before. Knitted on needles 3mm, size 7, and I used 6 balls. It's long enough to be a dress, but O. emphasized that it was a tunic! Mother-of-pearl buttons in front.

I like it. So did O.

Hmmmm- this was a strange post. Not even ONE sheep! But lady Grey got five kittens last night! Photos later...
