Yesterday the kids and I went Christmasshopping. We're almost done, but not quite...I was looking for "something special" for someone special, but didn't find any. On my way home, it suddenly struck me: I have a piece of crocheted lace! And I have a piece of a linen/viscose blend that was meant to become a blouse. The lace was already joined in a square, I've had plans for that for quite some time, just waited for the right fabric- and then it somehow got "lost" on the bottom of the drawer. So home we came, and I dragged out my sister's sewingmachine, I borrowed it this summer, but haven't used it a lot yet.
It didn't work.
The underspool jumped out of place again and again. Finally I gave in and found the old machine that was given to me some years ago. It's not a good machine, but it will do.
It didn't work either...
In the end, I called a friend and got to borrow her machine...and here's the result:
(and I might keep it myself...)
A square tablecloth, 115x115 cm. I like it. It's not perfect in any way, but it was fun making it. Apart from the sewingmachineincidents, that is...
A detail of the lace. Crochet is what I started with, when I was around five. My grandmother lived nearby, and she taught me. I make mostly smaller items, not having the patience for those big tablecloths and bedspreads that Gran used to make.
The first one came from Beyla .
I'm sure I did it all the wrong way too! I cut out the middle part, and hemmed the middle and the inside of the square, and the zigzagged the lace to the fabric...I'm not very fond of handsewing...
These are cheap kitchentowels made a little more personal with appliqued hearts. Fun to make, and really easy.
Then over to the awards...sorry I'm so late in passing these on!

Oh, wow! I am very honored that you nominated my blog -- an award like this means a lot coming from someone whose blog I really enjoy reading, like yours. Thank you!
And I love that tablecloth -- it turned out well; I think I'd keep it, too :) Good luck with your holiday knitting!
Hia Marit- I keep meaning to tell you that often I leave commenting on your blog until the end as I love listening to your soundtrack. :-)
I think you did well with the tablecloth. That trim is so special. I know what you mean about looking out for the right project for things. :-)
Congratulations on your awards. You deserve them.
Takk for awarden :)
Får se om jeg får gitt den videre.
Ha ei fin helg!
Love the lace! You are amazingly clever. Thanks so much for the award. I hope you have a wonderful week.
BEAUTIFUL tablecloth!
And I love the idea of appliqueing the hearts on the towels.. what an easy fun gift idea!
Takk fyrir kveðjuna og gleðileg jól.
Dear Marit, i am so glad you wrote, i intended to write you a little note before x-mas day. i am very surprised to read that you hardly have any snow. In my mind, Norway is a northern country and i really beleived you had a lot of snow. Is it a view of the north sea you have from your living room window ??? Oh my, this is even more beautiful than all the snow we have here. I love the sea. I want to tell you also your tablecloth turned out really great! It is absolutely lovely. A nice gift for yourself. :)
I hope you spend a lovely and wonderful christmas holidays with your family...yes, i am so happythatmy husband is coming back tomorrow. I miss him a lot.
keep in touch :)
hugs,
monique

What a beautiful tablecloth, Marit. I haven't had my sewing machine out since this summer. It's just so much easier to pick up my knitting needles.
God jul til deg og dine!
Blonden ser nydelig ut. Jeg vil ønske deg en riktig hyggelig julefeiring :-)
That was very clever how you made the table cloth. And it looks reall nice too.
Hope you have a fun Holiday season and all the best to you and yours for 2009. :)
For et fint heklearbeid! Godt å få det fram på bordet! Og takk for award'en - koselig at du tenker på meg! Ønsker deg ei fortsatt god romjul!!! Klem

Thanks for the award! I have been so delinquent lately! I started a new job as a preschool teacher and I am so tired at night that I pass right by my computer and head to bed.
I'm off to check out your other awardees before I drop to sleep.
Take care, Marit!
